HVAC and Refrigeration Contracting

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is the use of various technologies to control the temperature, humidity, and purity of the air in an enclosed space. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality.

An HVAC contractor is a tradesperson who specializes in installing and maintaining heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Their main goal is to provide excellent climate control and air quality for their customers. While some contractors are generalists who provide a wide range of services, others have a specific area of expertise. This could include air conditioner maintenance, heater installation or HVAC repair.

Additionally, HVAC contractors may focus on residential or commercial work. Residential services involve traveling to private homes to install, maintain or repair central heating and air-conditioning units. Contractors who do commercial work specialize in installing and maintaining large HVAC systems in stores, office buildings, entertainment venues and other public buildings.

HVAC contractors often spend the fall and winter months providing a range of heater services for their clients. There are many different types of heating systems in use, and experienced contractors often know how to service multiple kinds. Others may specialize in servicing a particular type of system.

Servicing these systems could include maintenance, repair or installation. Here are some common heater services that an HVAC technician might offer:

  • Changing filters
  • Removing blockages
  • Installing replacement furnace or boiler parts
  • Furnace, boiler or duct inspection
  • Testing motors
  • Inspecting and replacing electronic components
  • Calibrating the thermostat
  • Fixing the blower mechanism
  • Installing furnaces or boilers
  • Replacing belts and capacitors
  • Fixing or replacing the ignition
  • Installing ducts
